A video from the burial ceremony of late Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has surfaced online, with his younger sister shedding light on the family tragedies surrounding the deceased.
Intel Region previously reported that Ogogo d!£d on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage 4 cancer.
The veteran actor’s death plunged the Nigerian entertainment industry into mourning, and he was laid to rest on Monday, August 24, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, amid tears and an outpouring of tributes from family, friends and colleagues.
Several Nollywood stars attended the burial, including Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Muyideen Oladapo, Kazeem Adeoti, Dele Odule, Mr Latin, Ireti Osayemi, Fathia Balogun, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Toyosi Adesanya and Saje Tiologa, among others.
However, attention shifted during the burial service after Ogogo’s younger sister spoke in Yoruba about the family’s history and the series of deaths that had affected them.
According to the woman, Ogogo’s death was linked to what she described as a generational family curse, known in Yoruba as “Ogun Idile”, from their father’s side in Ilaro.
She stressed that she was not blaming witches or wizards for the actor’s death but attributed the tragedy to what she described as a long-standing family battle.
The woman further revealed that their mother had given birth to several children while married into Ogogo’s father’s family, but only a few survived.
Using her own experience as an example, she said she gave birth to her first child in their father’s home in Ilaro, but the child later d!£d.
Before his death, Ogogo had also spoken about the number of children his mother gave birth to and the losses suffered by the family.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop during his 60th birthday, the actor revealed that his mother had 13 children, but only three were still alive at the time.
Ogogo, who trained as an automobile mechanic before venturing into acting, described reaching the age of 60 as a major blessing and expressed gratitude to God for his life and good health.
He also disclosed that his twin brother, Kehinde, had died, adding that his mother had given birth to four sets of twins and that he was the last surviving twin.
“I just want to thank God for bringing me into this world. Being 60 is a thing of joy for me. For example, my Kehinde (twin) is no more. My mother had four sets of twins. I’m the last set of twins and the only surviving one,” he said.
