Pastor Fatoyinbo should not have made a sweeping generalization. Instead, he should have limited his statement to Igbos who attend his church.
The fact is, Igbos are significant contributors to various churches,most especially the Catholic,Anglican Churches,Methodist Churches which are not owned by a single pastor or their family and friends.
Igbos are also major contributors and donors to pentecostal churches such as Redeem, Winners, Christ Embassy, House On The Rock, Zion Ministries etc
Numerous Igbo businessmen have generously spent hundreds of millions, even billions, to build churches from scratch. For instance, last Christmas, I was part of the entourage that witnessed the dedication of a stunning Catholic Church in Ezeagbogu, Ezinihite Mbaise, Imo state, built single-handedly by an Abuja-based architect and business man. Similarly, about five years ago, my cousin spent hundred of millions of naira to build a magnificent, world-class Anglican church in my village…..the picture of the church is on my post.
This trend is widespread throughout Igbo land. Pastor Fatoyinbo should reconsider his statement and acknowledge the significant contributions of Igbos to various churches.
