I read the work of a man identified as Charles Kay Anyabuike on social media that stopped me in my tracks. Not because it is comfortable reading. But because it asks a question that every Deeper Life member past and present deserves to sit with honestly.
He wrote and I quote his words directly:
“If there’s a heaven, Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life church will not enter it. And I say it with my full chest and understanding. In the 80s and 90s, many Deeper Life Church members lived and died in poverty because they believed Pastor Kumuyi’s teaching that those who live in luxury and enjoy the things of this world will go to hellfire.
Many of his church members at that time sold or destroyed their televisions and gold jewelry because Kumuyi said it would take them to hellfire. Some rejected job opportunities and businesses because Kumuyi said those jobs and businesses would take them to hellfire.
Today, Pastor Kumuyi flies round the world in first class jets and cruises the streets in limousines enjoying the life he denied his church members. How can he enter heaven?
Kumuyi will not enter heaven because God will judge him by what he teaches and the standard he set for his church members.”
Now I am not here to determine who enters heaven and who does not. That belongs to God alone. But the contradiction Charles is pointing at is real and it is serious and it deserves an answer that Pa Kumuyi has never publicly given.
You people hate the truth, but we won’t stop talking… I told you that I spent over 2 decades in Deeper before my eyes were opened.
Many lives were spoilt and families destroyed. Many people lived in deliberate material deprivation because a man told them from the pulpit that comfort would cost them eternity.
They trusted him with their lives and their livelihoods. They obeyed. They sacrificed. They suffered quietly and called it holiness.
And the man who preached all of that is now returning to all those things he stood against… But all he gets is support and applause.
You see, James 3:1 says my brethren be not many masters knowing that we shall receive the greater judgment.
This is not about whether Pa Kumuyi changed his theology over the years. People are allowed to grow. The problem is that he never stood before the people he misled and said I was wrong. He never compensated the families who made irreversible decisions based on his teaching. He never addressed the damage. He just quietly upgraded his lifestyle and kept preaching.
And his members kept defending him.
Charles Kay Anyabuike said what he said with confidence. I am posting it with mine. Because the people who suffered under his teachings like me deserve to speak up.
What you see in Deeper Life is not Holiness, it is control. GenZs won’t understand tho.
See, you must go back to the Bible. Because, it’s that bible that will judge you at last, NOT Kumuyi or any General Overseer.
May God open your eyes!
