The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has reaffirmed that the party’s structure in Delta State will remain firmly under the control of those who originally built it, warning against any attempts by new entrants to alter the existing leadership arrangement.
Speaking during a crucial meeting with party stakeholders, Ganduje set a decisive tone by ordering the exit of several senior figures before addressing the core leadership.
Loyalty and Historical Contributions
Ganduje made it clear that loyalty and historical contributions to the party’s growth would not be disregarded in favour of political expediency. “I am going to be frank with everyone,” Ganduje said. “The APC in Delta State was built by someone. Under that leadership, we won a Senate seat, retained it, and later secured two more Senatorial seats, one House of Representatives seat, and several seats in the State House of Assembly. The President’s directive is clear: the party structure in Delta must remain intact under the leadership that delivered these victories.”
Caution to New Entrants
The National Chairman firmly cautioned that those who recently joined the party should not expect to control its structures, stressing that political newcomers had no role in establishing the party’s foundations or electoral successes in the state.
Following his address, Ganduje directed all attendees to remain behind while five APC governors proceeded into a closed-door session with the Deputy Senate President and APC leader in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
Conclusion
In a final rebuke to those expressing dissatisfaction, Ganduje stated: “I do not want to hear anyone complain that my position is unfair. Swallow the pill, even if you thought it would be sweet. You begged to join this party out of fear of prosecution. Accept what you have been given. You do not have the leverage to negotiate terms in a party you pleaded to enter.” The developments underline a major shift in internal party politics in Delta State, as the APC leadership moves to consolidate its gains by ensuring that loyalty, consistency, and electoral performance remain the primary determinants of influence within the party.
