Judges, And Protect Judicial Independence; No Government Official, No Matter How Highly Placed, Will Be Able To Control The Judiciary With Free Mansions Under The Atiku Abubakar 2027 Presidency
The Judicial Reform Policy of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, led by its 2027 Presidential Candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, seeks to remove corruption that has eaten deep into Nigeria’s Judiciary, strengthen disciplinary systems, protect judicial independence, and restore public confidence in the Courts.
According to the ADC 2027 Policy Document, the reform would benefit Nigerians at every level, because a credible Judiciary affects access to justice, workers’ rights, businesses, elections, property, family disputes and the fight against corruption.
The Document states that the Atiku Presidency will “reduce legal technicalities that delay or frustrate justice”.
The era of unnecessary adjournment tactics used by some Lawyers and tolerated by compromised Judges, will finally be over. All Court cases will start and finish on time, just like in other civilised societies. The Courts will no longer be choked with cases that span decades, and ordinary Nigerian families will finally enjoy speedy justice.
The Document also states that the Atiku 2027 Presidency will “remove corrupt Judges and Officials, strengthen disciplinary systems and protect Judicial independence, improve professionalism, impartiality and public confidence in the Judiciary”.
Lastly, the Atiku Presidency will “amend Laws and sentencing frameworks, to promote community service and other restorative alternatives for minor offences, shifting the focus from punishment alone to rehabilitation, accountability, and social value”.
For ordinary citizens, a more professional Judiciary would mean quicker, fairer and more affordable access to justice.
Many Nigerians remain trapped in prolonged disputes involving land, inheritance, divorce, employment and personal rights. Stronger case management, digital filing and improved Court administration, could reduce delays and make it easier for Litigants to follow their cases.
Removing corrupt Judicial Officers would also reduce the perception that justice is available only to those who can pay bribes or hire powerful Lawyers. Concerns about delays, alleged corruption and limited access, continue to weaken public confidence in Nigerian Courts.
Poor and vulnerable citizens suffer most, when justice is slow or compromised.
The Document’s emphasis on accountability, could also discourage Judicial Officials from demanding for unofficial payments to process files, issue documents, or speed up Court proceedings.
Nigerian workers would benefit from a Judiciary capable of resolving labour disputes promptly and fairly. Employees facing wrongful dismissals, unpaid salaries, or unsafe working conditions, need Courts that can provide timely remedies.
Small businesses would gain from reliable enforcement of contracts. When Business owners trust that Agreements will be respected and disputes settled impartially, they are more likely to invest, employ workers and expands.
Investors need assurance that their contracts, property and investments, will be protected by the Law.
The Atiku 2027 Presidency assures Nigerians of a Judiciary that is independent, but accountable; professional, but accessible; and powerful, but subject to the Law.
For Atiku and the ADC, no Nigerian should lose a Court case, simply because of poverty, political pressure, corruption, or lack of influence.
