LAGOS — The police have arrested a security guard, Abdul Latiff, in Taraba State over the alleged murder of his employer, Mrs. Marbel Okafor, in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Latiff was employed by Okafor as a security guard in the first week of August 2026. About two weeks later, on August 16, he allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the stomach with a knife.
A neighbour reportedly heard Okafor screaming and calling Latiff by name. When the neighbour confronted him, Latiff allegedly claimed that his employer was frightened by a cockroach.
He allegedly entered Okafor’s room afterwards and fled with three mobile phones, ₦10,000 from her purse and other valuables.
Latiff reportedly travelled by vehicle to Jalingo, Taraba State, where police later traced and arrested him after neighbours discovered Okafor’s death and alerted the authorities.
During questioning, Latiff was reportedly asked what Okafor had done to him. He allegedly replied that she had done nothing and said it was “the devil’s work.”
The police investigation is still ongoing.
