Oladipupo Ladi Adebutu has officially contested the governorship seat in Ogun State one time on the main election ballot, but his political journey includes three distinct campaign cycles under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has been eyeing the governoship seat for years.
2019 Election (Factional Candidate): He won the National Working Committee’s primary election. However, following intense legal battles and a court order, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognized Senator Buruji Kashamu as the official PDP flagbearer instead.
His faction ultimately backed the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate.
2023 Election (Official Nominee): This marks his only appearance on the general election ballot. He contested as the unified PDP candidate but lost a highly contested race to the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, by a slim margin of 13,915 votes.
2027 Election (Presumptive Candidate): He has already been officially declared the winner of the state’s PDP primary election to serve as the consensus candidate for the upcoming election cycle.
