Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has today appeared before the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential screening committee at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
The former Vice President, who is widely regarded as a leading contender for the ADC’s 2027 presidential ticket, was accompanied by prominent political figures including Senator Aminu Tambuwal (former Governor of Sokoto State), Chief Emeka Ihedioha (former Governor of Imo State), and Abubakar Malami, SAN (former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice).
According to reports and eyewitness accounts, Atiku successfully underwent the screening process, which forms part of the party’s preparations for its presidential primaries scheduled for May 25, 2026. The screening exercise is being chaired by former Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke.
This development comes days after reports of a postponement of the screening, which the party attributed to logistical and security reasons. Atiku’s team had earlier dismissed rumours of ill health as unfounded.
Atiku Abubakar formally joined the ADC late last year and has been positioning himself as a unifying figure within the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. His appearance today signals strong momentum in his bid for the party’s presidential nomination, amid ongoing discussions about broader opposition coalitions.
