His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro, Paramount Ruler of Yewaland and Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas, Wednesday, 22nd April 2026, received the Acting Area Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, Deputy Comptroller Olukayode Oladapo Afeni, on a courtesy visit to the palace.
During the visit, the Acting Comptroller highlighted the strategic importance of collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and traditional institutions, particularly in ensuring security and curbing illicit cross-border activities. He noted that crime rates often increase during election periods, stressing the need for heightened vigilance. He therefore appealed to His Majesty to lend his royal voice in sensitizing the people against engaging in, or facilitating, the transportation of prohibited and illicit goods across the borders.
The Comptroller was accompanied by a delegation of senior officers, including M.C. Behora, M.K. Akintan, R.I. Idris, O.I. Eze, G.O. Sanni, L.E. Akorhe, among others.
In his response, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olugbenle, warmly welcomed the Acting Comptroller to the Ogun I Area Command and commended the efforts of the Nigeria Customs Service in safeguarding the nation’s borders. Kabiyesi assured the delegation of the palace’s continued support and readiness to partner with the Command in maintaining peace and lawful trade within the region.
Kabiyesi emphasized that a significant volume of goods enters Ogun State through land borders rather than by air, thereby underscoring the need for intensified attention and surveillance in border communities. His Majesty reiterated the critical role of border security in sustaining economic stability and national safety.
Kabiyesi appeals to the good people of Yewaland to remain law-abiding and cooperative with security agencies; urging them to adhere strictly to importation laws and avoid any involvement in illegal trade, especially during the sensitive election period.
