Boko Haram has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian government, daring it to attempt a forceful rescue of the 416 abducted victims from Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a new video released on Monday, the terrorists warned that if their demands are not met within the given time, the hostages ā mostly women and children ā will be moved to different locations where they may never be seen again.
The group, which identified itself as Jamaāatu Ahlis-Sunna LiddaāAwati Wal-Jihad under Imam Abu Umaimatul Muhajjir, said it āwelcomesā any attempt by the government to rescue the victims by force. The spokesperson, dressed in military camouflage, declared that they are battle-ready.
Earlier, the terrorists had demanded ā¦5 billion for the release of the captives. The Borno South Youths Alliance (BOSYA), which has been mediating, confirmed the demand and renewed its appeal to President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Babagana Zulum and other leaders to act urgently.
The ultimatum comes weeks after Boko Haram overran a military base in Ngoshe on March 4, killing several people and abducting the victims. The development has heightened fears for the safety of the hostages.
