The entire members and executives of ADC National Media Frontiers strongly condemn and denounce the recent media statements and political commentary made by Reno Omokri, which targeted leaders and members of the African Democratic Congress.
Recent developments in the international media space have further highlighted concerns regarding Omokri’s credibility and public standing. A Nigerian diaspora organisation, the Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria (GCSDN), reportedly wrote to Claudia Sheinbaum, urging her to reject Omokri’s appointment as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.
In a letter signed by Comrade Frederick Odorige, the Global Coordinator of the organisation, Omokri was described as “a controversial figure lacking integrity and moral authority,” and the group urged the Mexican government to reconsider accepting him as Nigeria’s diplomatic representative.
Against this backdrop, we at ADC National Media Frontiers view it as highly inappropriate and politically insensitive for Reno Omokri to engage in provocative commentary about opposition political parties in Nigeria. Recently, Omokri publicly warned that Atiku Abubakar could risk losing political support in Adamawa State if he chooses Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party Nigeria, as his running mate in the 2027 presidential election.
The ADC National Media Frontiers wishes to state clearly that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) neither requested nor requires the political advice of Reno Omokri. His continuous attempts to inject himself into political discussions concerning the ADC and its leadership are unnecessary and unproductive.
We therefore call on Reno Omokri to focus on the responsibilities associated with his ambassadorial appointment and refrain from making unsolicited political statements about the ADC and its leadership.
The ADC National Media Frontiers remains committed to promoting credible political discourse, defending the integrity of the African Democratic Congress, and ensuring that accurate and responsible political communication is disseminated to the Nigerian public and the international community.
