Former Kaduna state governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, refused to go with the agents at Namdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday, insisting on proper procedure as videos captured him declaring no one, not even the president, could force him.
Bystanders and supporters intervened, blocking the operatives and allowing him to depart safely amid chants, after agents seized his passport from an aide.
The confrontation followed his return to honor an EFCC invitation scheduled for February 16 amid ongoing corruption probes from his 2015-2023 governorship, which he calls politically motivated.
Reacting to the whole fiasco via his official X account, El-Rufai wrote, “My lawyers have issued a statement that condemns the illegal attempt to arrest me today at the Abuja airport upon my arrival from Cairo.
