The Bola Ajibola College of Law, Crescent University Abeokuta has given a standing ovation to the philanthropist and giant legal luminary, Chief (Dr) Lateef Olufemi Okunnu SAN, CON.
According to the Dean of BACOLAW, Dr Saliu Jimoh, Chief Okunnu was honoured, albeit in absentia in recognition of his endowment of the Femi Okunnu Library of the Bola Ajibola College of Law in October, 2012.
Accordingly, Chief Okunnu’s citation was rendered as part of the highlights of the College programme, named Momodu Kassim-Momodu Monthly Seminar Series, with a theme “Examination Malpractice as a Threat to Educational Integrity and National Development”.
Reading Chief Okunnu’s citation, a final-year student of the College, Mujeebat Idris decribed Chief Okunnu as a frontline lawyer, philanthropist, prolific writer, editor of the Nigerian Bar Journal and many other publications including:
Engaging with History (2003), Contemporary State Land Matters in Nigeria: The Case of Lagos State (2003), In the Service of the Nation-An Autobiography (2010), The World of Islam in Turmoil (2016), among many others.
Apart from his endowment of the college library, Chief Olufemi Okunnu is also a decorated alumnus of Crescent University, Abeokuta as he was honoured in October 2012 with a Doctor of Science Honoris Causa.
The Registrar, Barr. Zakariyya Ademola Ajibola, on behalf of the university management, expressed his gratitude to Chief Okunnu and other philanthropists who have supported the development of the institution.
