Fuji music legend, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate (KWAM1), has instituted a legal action against the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, over the ongoing process to install a new Awujale of Ijebuland.
K1 filed the suit at the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, seeking an order of interim injunction to restrain the governor and five other respondents from taking further steps in the selection and installation of the next Awujale.
Also joined in the suit are the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council; and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
The development follows the Fuji icon’s earlier declaration of interest in the vacant Awujale stool, where he reportedly laid claim to royal lineage traced to the Jadiara Royal House within the wider Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
However, his claim was rejected by the family, which insisted that the Olori Omoba of Ijebuland has no ancestral link with the royal house eligible to produce the next Awujale.
In a motion ex parte filed before High Court 2, Ijebu-Ode, in Suit No: HC3/238/2025, the musician stated that the application was brought pursuant to Order 38 Rule 4 and Order 39 Rule 1 of the High Court of Ogun State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2024; Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended); and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.
Dated December 16, the suit urged the court to restrain all the respondents from taking any further steps in the selection process pending the hearing and determination of the substantive matter.
According to the applicant, the court’s intervention is necessary to protect his interest and preserve the subject matter of the suit from being dissipated or interfered with by the respondents.
As of the time of filing this report, the court has not fixed a date for the hearing of the application.
Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor developments surrounding the Awujale succession and bring timely updates to the public.
