Biography
Early Life and Background: Born in Ososo, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria, on December 25, 1961.
Military Career: Jemitola enrolled in the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and was known as a calm, professional, and reliable officer. He rose through the ranks, holding several key positions in the Nigerian Army:
Aide-de-Camp: He served as the ADC to President Olusegun Obasanjo from 2003 to 2007, during which he held the rank of Colonel.
Director of Army Public Relations: He had a tenure as the spokesman for the Nigerian Army.
Defence Attaché to Brazil: He was posted to the Nigerian Embassy in Brazil as the defence attaché.
Corps Commander Signals: He commanded the Nigerian Army Signals Corps.
Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP): Before his retirement, he held the influential position of Chief of Policy and Plans at Army Headquarters.
Rank: He was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2014.
Post-Military Career: After retiring from the military, he worked in the private sector as a Senior Advisor for Military Communications at Pinnacle Communications Limited.
Personal Life: Jemitola was known for his humility and his dedication to teaching life lessons to his son, Caleb. He spoke the Yoruba language fluently despite not being from a core Yoruba-speaking state.
Death: He passed away on February 6, 2025, at the age of 63, after collapsing at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja. He was laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
He is remembered by colleagues and family as an “officer and a gentleman” who embodied professionalism, integrity, and excellence.
