The media aide to the Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Steve Oliyide, on Tuesday, declared that the lawmaker remains a bona fide member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
Oliyide stated this during a press conference held on Tuesday at the Asoludero Hall, Sagamu, adding that the lawmaker had not been served any letter of suspension from the party.
He described the so-called suspension as a “fluke” and urged party faithful in the state to disregard it, maintaining that Daniel remains a bona fide party member.
Oliyide faulted the leadership of the party in the state for announcing the purported suspension on one of the social media platforms belonging to a State Director of Publicity.
It is on record that the State Working Committee of the APC, earlier this month, announced the indefinite suspension of Daniel, who was a former governor of the state from 2003 to 2011, over alleged anti-party activities.
The State Chairman of the party, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and the State Secretary, Tella Aderibigbe, in a letter jointly signed and dated October 3, 2025, said the decision to suspend Daniel had been communicated officially to the National Working Committee of the party.
He said, “In the last few days, you must have heard the rumours going round about the purported suspension of His Excellency, the Senator, Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel.
“This joke started a few months ago, precisely in August 2025, with a Facebook post by someone who, for the first time, introduced himself as the Director of Publicity of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
“What a creative way to announce or launch an appointment which hitherto was unknown to several members of the party in the state at that time.
“For your quick recall, let me reproduce the sequence of this joke called suspension. On the Facebook post, the State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress was said to have ratified the suspension by a Ward 4 Exco following the report of a purported investigation committee set up to investigate alleged anti-party activities by Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel. There were some fundamental issues in this process.
“One, is it ethical and logical to announce a suspension order on the personal Facebook page of an individual who was hitherto not known to the party, and such an announcement would be accorded any seriousness?
“Here we are talking about a former governor of the state and a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. What happens to the chairman of the party in the state? Where is the state secretary of the party?
“It therefore suggests that such announcements cannot be given any seriousness, especially because there was no official communication about any offence, no allegation levelled, no invitation to attend any investigative panel, no letter of suspension—and I say with emphasis—none was even sighted by any known journalists. Though sadly, some of our colleagues went to town to publish this Facebook post as if it were a real event, without cross-checking with the real leadership of the party in the state or at the national level for oral confirmation and proper attribution.”
Oliyide, flanked by other major stakeholders of the party from Ogun East, challenged the Ogun APC leadership to produce the letter formally suspending the senator, as well as the acknowledgement of such a letter.
In his remarks, the former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Remmy Hazzan, said the purported suspension by the party was an attempt by the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to discredit Daniel ahead of the 2027 election.
Meanwhile, Chief Kola Onadipe, a former commissioner in the state, denied claims circulating on social media platforms that the lawmaker worked against the interest of the party during the 2023 election.
