We hope this message finds you well. We, the members of the Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu Support Group, (AATSG) wish to bring to your urgent attention a pressing issue that has reached alarming proportions. As we traverse the busy Ijebu Ode-Shagamu road, an artery that connects various regions and facilitates commerce and travel, we are met with three crippling gullies that have formed along the way, posing a severe threat to the lives of countless motorists and pedestrians.
These gullies, strategically located merely 200 meters apart, serve as treacherous traps awaiting unsuspecting drivers. The worst of these pits is located in a valley just beyond the Babcock University junction. It is growing in depth and width every day, becoming significantly more dangerous. It’s not just the potential for vehicle damage; the imminent threat of accidents looms ever larger. We cannot afford to ignore the stark reality: a catastrophe may be just around the corner if immediate action is not taken.
Each day, thousands of vehicles cruise along this road, with families, students, workers, and visitors relying on it for their safety and mobility. We can no longer stand idly by as these gullies evolve into death traps waiting to ensnare innocent lives. The local community has already witnessed minor accidents caused by motorists attempting to navigate around these growing voids, leading to injuries and close calls. But luck will not always be on our side. It is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs, one that could claim lives and lead to travesties that will resonate through families and communities.
The consequences of inaction are dire. Each season, during attempts to manage the natural descent of water, the gullies aggravate an already hazardous situation. Rainfall exacerbates the issue, turning these gaps into slippery, muddy potholes during downpours, making it increasingly difficult and dangerous for passing vehicles. Our fears are compounded by alarming stories of similar situations across the nation where neglect of such infrastructural deterioration has led to fatal accidents that could have been prevented had swift action been taken.
As a community, we echo the sentiments of countless citizens who travel this road; we are worried, frightened, and exhausted from the uncertainty that accompanies each journey. We implore you, Honorable Minister, to hear our plea and advocate for immediate repair work on this crucial roadway. The lives of many innocent Nigerians depend on the decisions we take today.
Honorable Minister, we understand that the challenges of road maintenance are vast and resource allocation is often contentious. However, we are confident in your commitment to the safety and welfare of our citizens. We ask that you prioritize the repair of the Ijebu Ode-Shagamu road, particularly addressing the alarming gullies that currently threaten lives and property.
At this juncture, we urge you to consider the following actions as a matter of urgency:
