President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has declared 2024 as a pivotal year in his administration’s mission to reform, restore, and reposition Nigeria for a greater tomorrow. This year has been marked by significant strides that reaffirm Nigerians’ faith in his leadership and dedication to national service. Tinubu has set the stage for a brighter, more prosperous future by laying the groundwork for long-term growth, economic stability, and social development.
Achievements Since May 2023
1. Tax Reforms
President Tinubu initiated comprehensive tax reforms aimed at streamlining the tax system, increasing transparency, and fostering economic growth. By addressing inefficiencies in revenue collection and introducing progressive taxation, his administration has created a more equitable financial environment that supports both businesses and individuals.
2. Local Government Autonomy
The administration’s commitment to grassroots development was solidified with the implementation of local government autonomy. This policy empowers local governments to directly manage their resources, ensuring that developmental initiatives are tailored to meet the unique needs of communities across Nigeria.
3. Re-opening of State Refineries
A major highlight of 2024 has been the successful reopening of Nigeria’s state-owned refineries, a feat that symbolizes renewed hope and progress.
Warri Refinery: After years of inactivity, the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) resumed operations in December 2024 at 60% capacity. The refinery now produces critical products such as Straight Run Kerosene (SRK), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and light and heavy Naphtha.
Port Harcourt Refinery: In November 2024, the Port Harcourt Refinery restarted operations, processing 60,000 barrels per day (bpd).
These milestones are part of a larger effort to increase local refining capacity, reduce reliance on imported fuel, and position Nigeria as a hub for downstream industrial activities in Africa.
4. Energy Efficiency and Security
President Tinubu’s administration has made substantial progress toward energy security by implementing a comprehensive strategy to rehabilitate all four state-owned refineries. The focus is now on completing repairs at the Kaduna Refinery and the second Port Harcourt Refinery (150,000 bpd). These efforts will enhance Nigeria’s capacity to refine crude oil locally, boosting economic self-reliance and securing the nation’s energy future.
5. Economic Diversification
Tinubu’s administration has prioritized diversification to reduce Nigeria’s dependency on oil revenue. Strategic investments in agriculture, technology, and manufacturing have created new opportunities for job creation and sustainable economic growth.

In his statement celebrating the reopening of the Warri Refinery, President Tinubu emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering on the promises of hope and prosperity:
“The restart of the Warri Refinery today brings joy and gladness to me and Nigerians. This will further strengthen the hope and confidence of Nigerians for a greater and better future that we promised.”
The President praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), led by Mele Kyari, for its relentless efforts to restore Nigeria’s pride as a major oil-producing nation. He urged the NNPCL to accelerate repair work on the remaining refineries, ensuring that Nigeria becomes a global energy provider and achieves full energy independence.
