A crippled Italian painter named Fatimah made a strong effort to see her idol Cristiano Ranaldo at Al Nassr camp ahead of the AFC Champions League Game Week 1 clash with Persepolis FC, currently held behind closed doors at Azadi Stadium, Tehran.
A video trending on the official website of Al Nassr shows an elated Fatimah handing over the paintings to the Portuguese star, who bent to warmly embrace her, giving her his Al Nassr shirt to the delight of the club officials.
The post on the club’s website reads: “The Iranian painter Fatimah visits the team’s mission headquarters in Tehran and meets the leader of Al-Nasr, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Iranian painter Fatimah meets the idol Cristiano.”
According to Al Jazeera, Ronaldo received a massive welcome in Iran, with hundreds of fans in Al Nassr jerseys tracking the aircraft carrying the player ahead of its landing at the Imam Khomeini International Airport. They then gathered to shout his name and cheer him on the moment the team bus left the airport in the capital.
The Tehran municipality adorned the city with banners welcoming Ronaldo and his teammates, displaying the messages in Farsi, English, and Arabic.
However, the fans who went to great lengths to catch a glimpse of the superstar were not able to see him in action.
Persepolis played behind closed doors as punishment by the AFC for a social media post the team made in 2020 deemed offensive to an Indian club.
The crowd ban is being implemented now since this is the club’s first home Asian Champions League match after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. The AFC rejected a request by the club to defer the punishment to another match.
