One of them is WAIDI AKANNI — a former Nigerian international whose journey took him from the streets and clubs of Lagos to the FIFA World Youth Championship, the Super Eagles, Howard University in America, NCAA football, engineering, football administration, business and grassroots development.

Born on 20 June 1968 in Surulere, Lagos State, Waidi Akanni, also known as Waheed Akanni, developed his football career through the Nigerian system.
His early club pathway included:

⚽ Flash Flamingoes — 1985–1986

One of the defining moments of Akanni’s playing career came in 1985, when he represented Nigeria at the FIFA World Youth Championship in the Soviet Union.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles finished the tournament with the bronze medal.
Akanni was part of a talented Nigerian generation that included players such as Alloy Agu, Andrew Uwe, Samson Siasia, Monday Odiaka, Wasiu Ipaye and Osaro Obobaifo.

Akanni later progressed to Nigeria’s senior national team.
