In a grand and vibrant ceremony held at the majestic palace of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the ancient traditions and cultural heritage of the Egbas came to life as Chief Lai Labode and others were installed into prominent chieftaincy titles.
The highlight of this cultural extravaganza was the installation of Chief Lai Labode as the Osi Apagun of Egbaland. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Femi Banjo, who assumed the position of Osi Akinrogun, and Mrs. Mariam Ndey Femi-Banjo, now the Erelu of Osi Akinrogun of Egbaland.
Chief Taiwo Odefunso was also honored with the title of Osi Are Ago of Egbaland, and his spouse, Mrs. Gbemisola Odefunso, was conferred with the prestigious title of Erelu of Osi Are Ago.
The palace of the Alake resonated with the echoes of traditional chants, drumming, and dance as these individuals were initiated into their respective roles. Each chief’s attire was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Egbas, adorned with intricate designs and vibrant colors that held deep symbolic significance.
The reception following the installation was held at the iconic OOPL Olusegun Obasanjo Public Library, where an array of guests, ranging from friends and family to well-wishers, gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion.
In the eyes of many, Chief Lai Labode’s journey to the Osi Apagun title was seen as destiny manifest. Mr. Charles Omeh, a prominent figure at the event, spoke eloquently of Chief Labode’s lifelong dedication and preparation to serve the land of his heritage.
