Security operatives have arrested a suspected notorious terrorist and bandit leader, Abubakar Abba, popularly known as Mamuda, following an intelligence-driven operation in Niger State.
Mamuda was reportedly apprehended in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area, after weeks of surveillance and coordinated intelligence gathering. His arrest was confirmed by Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.
The suspect has allegedly been responsible for a series of attacks, kidnappings and killings along the Kainji axis, affecting communities across parts of Niger and Kwara states.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reportedly disclosed that Mamuda had previously operated with the Boko Haram faction led by the late Abubakar Shekau before relocating to the North-West, where he became involved in large-scale banditry.
His arrest is being viewed as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating around the Kainji axis.
Mamuda is currently in DSS custody, where investigations are expected to focus on his network, associates and alleged criminal activities.
The development further highlights the importance of sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations in tracking down individuals who have continued to terrorise innocent communities.
