Education District IV has held its 2026 Ramadan Lecture with the theme “Reforming the Individual and Society,” focusing on the topic “Discipline and Self-Control: Lessons from Fasting.” The spiritually enriching programme brought together management staff, school administrators, and stakeholders within the district to reflect on the moral and social lessons of the holy month of Ramadan.
In his welcome address, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District IV, Mr. Olufemi Bamidele Paseda, described Ramadan as a period of reflection, discipline, and spiritual renewal. He noted that the lessons learned from fasting, particularly patience, self-restraint, and compassion, are essential values that can positively transform individuals and society.
Mr. Paseda emphasised that fasting is not merely about abstaining from food and drink but about cultivating a strong sense of discipline and moral responsibility. He urged participants to embody the virtues of integrity, dedication, and self-control in both their personal lives and professional duties, stressing that societal reform begins with individual reform.
Delivering the Ramadan lecture, the guest lecturer, Ustadh Qaim Solahudeen, Anchor of Eji Saari/Spring of Life on Lagos Television, noted that Ramadan goes beyond fasting, explaining that it is a period meant for reform, self-control, and discipline.
According to him, many people in society have lost their direction due to a lack of self-control and discipline. He therefore encouraged participants to practice self-discipline, understand their individual purpose, and pursue their aspirations without unnecessary comparison with the achievements of others.
Ustadh Solahudeen further stated that if individuals can willingly refrain from eating and drinking because it is ordained by Allah during Ramadan, they should also be able to abstain from everything that Allah has forbidden even after the holy month.
“When we are disciplined, we will be able to become agents of change in our society,” he said, stressing that personal discipline is key to societal transformation.
As part of the programme, special prayers were offered for the nation, Lagos State, and Education District IV. The prayer session was led by Qasim Habibullah Qasim, Proprietor of Alhudah Crescent School, Bariga, who prayed for continued peace, progress, and prosperity in the state and the country at large.
Dignitaries present at the programme included Alhaji (Mrs.) Titilayo Smith, former Commissioner II, TESCOM; Mr. Hassan Daudu Adiodun, TG/PS Education District V, and ANCOPSS Chairmen from Mainland, Apapa, and Surulere zones, among other distinguished guests and education stakeholders.
The lecture provided an avenue for spiritual reflection and collective commitment to moral values capable of fostering positive change within the education sector and the wider society.
