The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, has showcased the State’s rich culinary diversity at the Y2025 Lagos Food Festival, themed “Taste Without Borders.” The festival brought together food lovers, entrepreneurs, chefs and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate the depth and variety of indigenous and contemporary cuisines that define Lagos as a melting pot of cultures.
Speaking at the event held at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, said the festival was designed to promote unity, cultural exchange and economic growth through food. He noted that Lagos remains home to people from different backgrounds, and food serves as a powerful tool for connecting cultures, preserving heritage and telling the unique story of the State’s diversity.
Sanwo-Olu described the festival as an avenue to support local farmers, food processors and small-scale businesses within the food value chain. He reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the food ecosystem, encouraging innovation and positioning Lagos as a leading destination for culinary tourism and agribusiness development.
He said the festival is geared towards promoting healthy eating habits and increasing awareness of the nutritional value of locally made foods. According to the Governor, encouraging residents to embrace indigenous cuisines not only preserves cultural identity but also supports sustainable food systems and strengthens household nutrition across the State.
Also speaking, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, said the Lagos Food Festival is a celebration of everything that defines Lagos, its richness, culinary culture, traditions and entertainment. She described the festival as a true reflection of the State’s diversity and multicultural identity, noting that Lagos cuisine embodies the convergence of cultures, histories and lifestyles that make the State unique.
According to the Commissioner, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems serves as the curator and custodian of Lagos’ food heritage, making it imperative to celebrate all actors across the food value chain. She explained that the festival provides a platform to recognise farmers, processors, chefs, caterers, restaurants and other stakeholders whose contributions sustain the food ecosystem and preserve the State’s culinary legacy.
Olusanya added that the festival also creates opportunities for exposure, collaboration and growth within the food industry. She noted that the presence of chefs, food entrepreneurs, restaurants and culinary creatives enables networking, knowledge sharing and business development, while interactions with notable personalities and industry leaders help encourage stakeholders and strengthen the Ministry’s interventions aimed at building a resilient and inclusive food system in the State.
