The Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio on Wednesday removed Sen Shehu Buba Umar and Sen. Godiya Akwashiki as chairmen of the Committees on National Security and Intelligence, and Air Force, respectively, over their failure to perform oversight duties amid increasing insecurity nationwide.
Mr Akpabio also announced the immediate dissolution of both committees.
The Senate officially removed Senator Shehu Buba Umar, (APC Bauchi), as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security.
Senator Umar has been under scrutiny by U.S. Intelligence agencies due to alleged links with terrorist organizations operating in Nigeria.
Umar has a reported history of sponsoring bandits and terrorists to participate in pilgrimages to Mecca.
His removal clears the way for a thorough investigation into how politicians may be enabling and protecting terrorism in the country while benefiting from it.
US is also insisting that Mattawale should also go.
