History reminds us that the meeting of generations often shapes the future of nations. Throughout the world, young leaders have drawn inspiration, wisdom, and courage from respected statesmen, and such encounters have often marked defining moments in their leadership journeys.
It was in this spirit that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives candidate for Jechira Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Aondoseer Benjamin Orduen Gbe, joined party leaders and supporters at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to warmly receive the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the ADC, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON, on his return from his trip abroad.
The brief interaction between the two leaders reflected more than a ceremonial reception. It represented a meeting between experience and youthful determination, national vision and grassroots commitment, and the shared desire to build a stronger, more united Nigeria.
As the African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Leadership grows stronger when experience and youthful energy walk side by side.
History provides many examples of young leaders learning from experienced statesmen.
In South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa worked closely with Nelson Mandela during the country’s democratic transition. The experience and mentorship he gained helped shape his leadership, and years later he became President of South Africa.
In the United Kingdom, David Cameron served under senior leaders of his party before eventually becoming Prime Minister. His rise reflected years of learning, preparation, and political engagement.
Nigeria’s political history also offers similar lessons. During the Second Republic, many young politicians were inspired by the leadership of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose vision, discipline, and commitment to public service shaped a generation of future political leaders across the country. Likewise, the legacy of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe inspired countless young democrats who later became governors, ministers, legislators, and national leaders. These examples demonstrate that when young leaders walk with experienced statesmen, they gain knowledge, wisdom, and the confidence to serve their people more effectively.
The Bible says, “The glory of young men is their strength, and the splendour of old men is their grey hair” (Proverbs 20:29). Indeed, “The child who walks with elders learns where the road bends.” Leadership is not built overnight. It is nurtured through service, humility, patience, and a willingness to learn from those who have gone before.
For the people of Jechira Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Aondoseer Benjamin Orduen Gbe continues to present a vision centred on purposeful representation, youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare, agricultural development, and people focused legislation. His engagement with the national leadership of the party reflects a commitment to strengthening the ideals of the African Democratic Congress and contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s democratic growth.
Supporters of the ADC remain hopeful about the future of the party and optimistic that its message of justice, accountability, national unity, and good governance will continue to resonate with Nigerians as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Indeed, “A tree does not stand alone in the forest; it grows because its roots are nourished.” May this memorable encounter inspire greater service, stronger unity, renewed hope, and a brighter future for Jechira Federal Constituency and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
