It was a simple title, but beneath it sat an enduring truth: privilege does not exempt anyone from pain. Wealth does not eliminate worry. Influence does not silence fear.
The rich also cry.
Because every settled person has something that unsettles them.
Every calm mind has a burden that keeps it awake. Every accomplished person has a reality that reminds them that personal comfort is not the same thing as collective peace.
For me, what unsettles me is Rivers State.
Not because I cannot live comfortably. Not because I lack the means to build, create, or thrive.
What unsettles me is watching a state with the capacity for greatness crawl when it should be soaring. What unsettles me is seeing a giant walk like it has forgotten its strength.
Those who live under the shadows of hardship already feel the weight of stagnation. They struggle to get by. They bear the immediate consequences of a state not fully realizing its promise.
But those of us who build, create, invest, and produce see something else. We see the immense potential of Rivers State. We see what it can become. And that is precisely what makes the present reality so unsettling.
Because decline never remains contained.
No matter how secure you believe you are, the unrest of the unsettled will eventually reach your doorstep. No wall is high enough. No gate is strong enough. No private success is sufficient insulation against public failure.
If a state does not advance, everyone pays.
The poor cry because they lack the resources to survive with dignity.
The rich cry because they spend their resources unnecessarily to compensate for what a thriving society should already provide.
Stagnation is expensive for everyone.
Prosperity, however, benefits everyone.
So as this week begins, ask yourself: what unsettles you enough to act?
Because peace is not merely something we enjoy; it is something we build.
Leadership is not the responsibility of a few people in government. Leadership is the collective decision of citizens to contribute to the settling of their society.
Let us settle Rivers State.
Let us build a future where opportunity is normal, where progress is expected, and where prosperity is shared.
Because if we do not participate in the healing of our state, eventually its unrest will unsettle us all.
