They thought he was just another citizen and they stopped his vehicle at an illegal checkpoint in the heart of Abuja. The checkpoint was up to extort wholly to extort money. And they thought another prey was in their trap when his vehicle approached. They stopped the vehicle and forced him to part with N53,000. The man they extorted turned out to be the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN).
After accusing him of some sundry offences , he was taken to a nearby PoS operator where he was forced to withdraw the money as they refused any transfer. After the money was given to them , the officers shared the loot and freed the arrested man.
After leaving the scene , Dr Aliyu reported the incident and a special squad from the FCT Command was put on the case.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, confirmed the arrest of the officers on Monday July 20,2026 during a press conference.
“We declared them wanted, arrested their leader, and during interrogation he confessed and identified the others. We tracked down and arrested the remaining members of the gang,” the police commissioner said.
According to Sanusi , “They extorted the Chairman of the ICPC of ₦53,000. They took him to a POS, he withdrew the money, paid the charges and they shared the money among themselves.”
On the fate of the Policemen, Sanusi said ,”We got all of them. We are going to make sure they are severely punished. Those that are going to be dismissed will definitely be dismissed.”
