Outrage has swept across Anambra State as lawmakers moved decisively against the alleged perpetrators of a horrifying child abuse case that has left a 10-year-old boy battling severe injuries and trauma.
The Anambra State House of Assembly has called for the immediate prosecution of Mrs. Chioma Chukwunyere and the arrest of her husband following disturbing allegations that young Chiziterem was subjected to months of relentless torture under their care.
Raising a motion of urgent public importance during plenary, Hon. Ifeoma Azikiwe painted a chilling picture of cruelty, revealing that the child had been entrusted to the family by his father in January with hopes of receiving proper care and education.
Instead, lawmakers heard allegations that the boy was repeatedly locked inside toilets, mercilessly beaten through the night, and burned with a heated gas burner pressed against his head and face. The resulting injuries reportedly became severely infected, leaving deep wounds that ate into his flesh.
Describing the incident as one of the most horrifying cases of child abuse ever witnessed in the state, Hon. Azikiwe urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct relevant agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and swift prosecution under the Child Rights Law.
The Assembly also demanded stronger child protection measures, including the establishment of Child Rights Desks and emergency hotlines across all 21 local government areas, as well as protection for whistleblowers willing to expose abuse.
