Former Rivers State Governor and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has stated that no one has ever approached him to serve as running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Amaechi made the remarks in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where he also reacted to controversies surrounding the party’s recently concluded presidential primary.
The former governor insisted that he stands by his earlier claim describing the election outcome as “concocted results,” although he affirmed that he remains a member of the ADC.
“I’m not joking, no one has ever asked me to be vice president because they know what my reaction would be,” Amaechi said.
The ADC presidential primary reportedly produced Atiku Abubakar as the party’s flagbearer, with results indicating he secured 1,855,787 votes.
Amaechi, who was also a contestant in the race, allegedly polled 509,397 votes, while Mohammed Hayatu-Deen reportedly scored 180,903 votes.
Following the announcement, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the outcome, raising concerns over the credibility of the process.
The development adds to growing internal tensions within the ADC as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections, with debates over unity, transparency, and candidate selection processes intensifying.
