Mujidat Adeyemi explained that she comes from a Muslim family but married a Christian man. Her parents were not happy about the marriage because they did not want her to marry someone from another religion.
She said that whenever she went to a movie set, some people would report it to her husband, and he would warn her not to continue acting in films. Later, she said she received messages from several clerics who told her that if she wanted to live a long life and have peace of mind, she must leave her husband’s house.
At first, she did not believe what they told her. But when they warned her that her life might be in danger if she stayed, she became afraid.
She explained that although she was born into a Muslim family, she had been practicing Christianity because her husband and her guardian were Christians.
The day she finally decided to follow the clerics’ advice and leave her husband’s house, she cried a lot. She said it was a very difficult decision because her parents had already been unhappy that she married a Christian.
She eventually left the house without telling her husband, but she also could not return to her parents’ home.
