Hailing from ukpor in nnewi South local government area in Anambra state, Ernest was born on June 21, 1970, in Anambra State, Nigeria
He grew up in Lagos State, attending primary and secondary school in Surulere and Yaba before he later went on and graduated from Dramatic Arts from the Obafemi awolowo university Ilê ife….which laid the foundation for his long-standing career in theatre and film.
Ernest Obi joined the Nigerian film industry in 1995. He is often distinguished by his signature professional tagline, “An Ernest Obi Mindset,” which appears in the opening credits of his directorial works.
He gained widespread fame for his performance as Sango in the 1995 classic Rattlesnāke.
Known for directing epic and horrør-themed movies, he has been described as a “specialist in making horror movies” within Nollywood
He has served as a former Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Lagos State Chapter.
