We visited the home of our great legend, late Chief Godwin Chikeluba, Akajiaku I of Awka Etiti and Onwanaetiliora I of Awka Etiti, former Chairman of GMO Group. Our visit took us to his iconic mansion in his hometown, Awka Etiti, where one of his sons personally guided us around and shared powerful stories about the life and legacy of his father.
Chief Godwin Chikeluba was one of the founders of People’s Club of Nigeria International and a respected patron of the club. In the 1970s, GMO Group stood as one of the biggest companies in Nigeria, jointly owned by three illustrious sons of Awka Etiti Chief G. A. Chikeluba, Chief J. Igwe, and Chief Mike Arinze. Together, they built an industry that became widely known, admired, and successful during its time.
Chief Godwin Chikeluba was a visionary businessman and a community leader whose impact is still remembered today. Sadly, in 1990, he was killed in his home in Lagos, a loss that deeply affected many.
During our visit, we toured his magnificent mansion, a landmark with over 20 rooms, standing as a symbol of his legacy.
Follow us as we continue to bring you the real stories directly from the family and preserve the history of our great legends.
