Enugu witnessed a watershed moment in Nigeria’s political evolution on December 31, 2025, as former Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, led a formidable delegation of Imo State African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders and stakeholders to witness the official entry of Mr. Peter Obi into the ADC, a development widely regarded as a defining realignment in the nation’s political trajectory. It was a historic realignment for South East.
The high powered Imo ADC delegation featured an impressive cream of political heavyweights, including former governor of Imo State, His Excellency Chief Achike Udenwa, former Deputy Governor, His Excellency Engr. Gerald Irona, and Imo State ADC Chairman, Prof. James Okoroma, alongside party elders, executives, and grassroots mobilization builders.
Addressing the historic gathering, Ihedioha delivered a stirring address, formally proposing the collective entry of South East leaders and patriots committed to a better, fairer, and more inclusive Nigeria into the ADC at all levels. He described the ADC as a credible platform for national rebirth, principled leadership, and inclusive governance, urging political actors across the region to embrace unity of purpose and progressive engagement.
The event attracted an extraordinary convergence of distinguished national leaders and associates, many of whom described the moment as “the dawn of a new political order.” In attendance were former Governors Okwesili Nwodo of Enugu State and Sam Egwu of Ebonyi State, alongside prominent senators including Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Victor Umeh, Senator Tony Nwoye, and Senator Gilbert Nnaji.
Also present were eminent political and intellectual figures such as High Chief Ben Obi, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Prof. Pat Utomi, Prof. Osita Ogbu, and Chief Ralph Nwosu, former ADC National Chairman, as well as members of the Federal House of Representatives, State Houses of Assembly, and respected community leaders from across the federation.
Underscoring the national outlook of the gathering were key leaders from outside the South East, led by the ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, His Excellency David Mark. He was joined by His Excellency Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State, and former Governor of Edo State, Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, among other notable national figures.
The event was hosted by the ADC National Vice Chairman, South East, Sir Bon Unachukwu, who also addressed the gathering, while the Deputy National Woman Leader of the ADC, Barr. Chioma Anyawu, and Deputy Youth Leader, Comrade Chinonso Obaise, was present in official recognition.
The Imo State contingent was particularly robust, comprising members of the State Executive Committee led by Prof. James Okoroma; Rt. Hon. The formal entry of Peter Obi into the ADC, backed by a sweeping coalition of national and regional leaders, signals a bold reconfiguration of Nigeria’s political chessboard anchored on reform, credibility, and renewed hope. As the curtains closed on the Enugu gathering, one message resonated unmistakably clear:
The ADC has rapidly emerged as a rallying point for a new Nigerian consensus.
