In 2014, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his All Progressives Congress (APC) co-travellers including my humble self took the global arena to vilify President Goodluck Jonathan of being incompetence and clueless, insisting he had failed to secure Nigeria from Boko Haram terrorists. They lobbied foreign governments and International Agencies especially the United States of America, to intervene. APC presented itself to Nigerians as the political messiah, a party that would end terror and restore hope, national dignity and take the country to the promised land. However, karma, the law of natural consequences has turned the mirror back on them.
Under Jonathan’s administration, government officials did not host terrorists in state facilities or parade them in the media as “repentant boko haram fighters.” The military was not mandated to rehabilitate killers while their victims languished in abandoned Internal Displaced Camps. But under Muhammadu Buhari and currently Bola Ahmed Tinubu, those who once condemned negotiation with jihadist terrorists are financing “deradicalisation programs” that provide food, shelter, stipends, rights and privileges for terrorists who butchered innocent citizens.
When APC sought international intervention in 2014, sovereignty was not considered. They travelled globally, sharing gruesome images with sometimes fabricated intelligence to disgrace Jonathan. But today, the same foreign leaders have raise concerns about Nigeria’s deteriorating insecurity, Suddenly APC is crying “foreign interference” and “assault on national integrity.” The same door opened by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and allies for global scrutiny is the same door now blowing back hot air at them.
Tinubu’s government is not fighting terrorism; it is massaging, accommodating, and in most cases legitimising it. High-profile meetings are held with terrorist warlords. Rehabilitation centres and programs for terrorists are funded by governments while fallen service men are secretly buried in shallow graves without any national honour. Victims of violence crimes remain displaced, traumatised, and abandoned to their fates. The contradiction is disheartening, those who destroyed people’s homes are being rebranded handsomely while citizens deserving sympathy and those who lost everything in live are told to pray and hope for heavenly intervention.
The ochestrated advocacy by the OCCUPY NIGERIA elements that once dominated national space in 2014 have gone into oblivion. The activists, influencers, critics, blackmailers, anarchists, and political clerics who weaponised insecurity for power have either been silenced, compensated or are simply comfortable with the very hypocrisy they once created. The same people who screamed “Jonathan has failed!” now preach patience, tolerannce, understanding, complexity and renewed hope.
Karma is a beast, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reaping the seeds of the discord and propaganda he planted when mocked Jonathan leadership. The same international pressure he once mobilized as a weapon is now choking his administration. The same narratives of failure that was deployed at Jonathan now hunt Tinubu relentlessly. Karma does not rush; it arrives when the table turns.
Nigeria does not need another round of blame games. It deserves honesty, transparency, accountabilty, justice, courage, and integrity. It requires political leadership that does not negotiate with death while citizens bury their love ones on daily basis. The irony remains notorious that APC claimed Jonathan’s failures would destroy Nigeria. However, Tinubu’s Nigeria is proving that statement true, not because Jonathan failed, but because those who replaced him have proven to be worse than him. Life is indeed a circle, and this time, the circle has closed on its architects.
