The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest of social media activist VeryDarkMan.
In an interview with BBC News Pidgin, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale explained that the commission apprehended VeryDarkMan in response to multiple complaints filed by various individuals.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale stated.
The EFCC dismissed speculation linking the arrest to a dispute with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), noting that the complaints came from multiple sources.
“We are responsible for protecting them,” he added.
The EFCC is preparing to formally charge VeryDarkMan in court and has assured the public that all actions are being taken in accordance with the law.
“We will release him when he meets the bail conditions and we will take the case to court as soon as possible; we are law-abiding,” Oyewale said.
