Muslim Community Hails Him as a Pillar of Islam, Offers Prayers for Tinubu’s Administration
In recognition of his steadfast dedication to Islam in Nigeria, the Eastern and Southern Nigeria Islamic Council has appointed the Amanyanabo of Elem Kalabari ,Da Amakiri Tubo, Alhaji Mujahid Abubarkr Dokubo Asari, Dabaye Amakiri I, as the President-General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (Ameer Muminin) for the South East and South South regions.
During a formal visit to his palace in Elem Kalabari, the delegation announced the appointment, citing his unwavering commitment to the propagation of Islam. Dr. Haroun Ogbonnia Ajah, Vice President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, praised the Amanyanabo as a guiding light in the faith, recalling their decades-long relationship, which began when the Amanyanabo converted to Islam in the early 1980s.
Dr. Ajah commended his efforts in both religious and socio-political spheres, highlighting his dedication to uplifting his people despite economic and political challenges. He also lauded Da Amakiri Tubo for constructing numerous mosques and using his resources to support Muslim communities nationwide.
The delegation also acknowledged the political tensions in Rivers State, expressing sympathy over the State of Emergency and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by President Bola Tinubu.
In his response, Da Amakiri Tubo expressed gratitude for the visit and for joining him in the ongoing Ramadan fast. Accepting his new role, he described it as a great responsibility and vowed to lead in a way that would uplift Muslims economically and spiritually.
He called on the Muslim community to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing the expectations placed on his administration. He reaffirmed his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, recalling his personal relationship with the president and his late mother.
Speaking on his character, Islamic scholar Aliyu Haruna described the Amanyanabo as a model Muslim who treats everyone with equal love and respect, following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The visit concluded with prayers for Nigeria’s unity, progress, and the success of Tinubu’s administration.
