The people’s president, Mr Peter Obi after being robbed of his victory during the 2023, presidential election once famously said, “If you must be addressed as ‘your excellency’, then the way by which you enter the office must be excellent.” Adding to this sentiment, I believe it is crucial to remember, “If one is to be known as a distinguished Senator and addressed as one, his or her behaviour, words, conduct and actions in the Hallowed Chambers of the Nigerian Senate must be distinguished and exemplary.”
In light of these wise words, one is compelled to question the conduct of certain individuals in the esteemed Nigerian Senate who parade themselves as distinguished senators, yet their actions, words and conduct speak otherwise. When did we allow the standards of the hallowed chambers of the Senate to fall so low? When did shamelessness become the norm?
How can a senator stoop to the level of attacking a fellow female colleague, publicly delving into her personal life and family matters in a derogatory manner like this? The recent remarks made by Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Nwaebinyi, in defense of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan are not just regressive but utterly despicable.
Your behaviour within the confines of the Senate reflects a primitive and outdated mindset, and your disparaging comments only betray your inherent envy towards Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. It is utterly incomprehensible and contemptible to pass judgment on her marital status and previous relationships. When did it become acceptable to pry into someone’s personal affairs in such a disrespectful way?
Remember that the electorate is carefully observing your actions, and come the next election in 2027, you will be held accountable for your distasteful conduct in the Senate. It is time for a change, and the people of Nigeria deserve better.
