In the age of political deception and calculated subterfuge, where the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) clings desperately to power, an intellectual engagement recently unfolded, one that rattled the very core of those who still harbour illusions of APC’s invincibility. This engagement dissected the growing fear gripping APC members as discussions of a formidable opposition merger gained momentum.
Nothing unsettles a failing government more than the prospect of a united opposition. The APC thrives on division, manipulating public sentiment and exploiting political fragility. But what happens when the opposition forces consolidate into an unbreakable bloc? History offers an answer: the ruling elite trembles.

That light is dawning. APC stalwarts are no longer at ease, for the reality of a well-organised and coordinated opposition sends shivers down their spines. The mere thought of an opposition merger triggers desperate counter-narratives, fear-mongering, and diversionary tactics. But history is not on their side. Whenever formidable alliances have emerged in Nigeria’s political landscape, the ruling elite has been shaken to its core.
Aristotle wisely observed, “Democracy is when the indigent, and not the men of property, are the rulers.” APC dreads this democratic rebirth, for it threatens the vested interests of those who have hijacked the nation’s resources for personal gain.
Throughout the discussions, one theme remained dominant, Nigerians are awakening. The engagement was not just an exchange of ideas; it was a mirror reflecting the desperation of APC loyalists who sought to downplay the potential of a merger. Their counterarguments lacked substance, relying instead on fear rather than facts. But facts are stubborn. APC’s governance has left the country impoverished, disillusioned, and on the brink of collapse.

The APC’s time is running out. Their fear is not misplaced. The people they once manipulated are now questioning, analysing, and demanding accountability. The merger discussion is no longer speculative,it is becoming an unavoidable political reality.
This engagement has proven beyond doubt that a merger is not only viable but inevitable. The numbers favour a well-structured opposition. The sentiment among the masses is shifting. The ground beneath the APC is becoming increasingly unstable.
