Highly placed sources within the Lagos State House of Assembly have come out to debunk reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved the return of impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa to his position. The sources describe the reports as mere “fake news” and the work of “few interested parties”.
According to the sources, Obasa’s impeachment was a done deal, and there’s no going back. “Obasa is gone for good,” one of the sources said, dismissing claims that President Tinubu had instructed lawmakers to pave the way for Obasa’s return.
The reports had claimed that President Tinubu had sent instructions to lawmakers to prepare for Obasa’s return, citing the potential political consequences of his removal. However, the sources within the Lagos State House of Assembly insist that this is not the case.
It’s worth noting that Obasa’s impeachment was a significant development in Lagos politics, and his removal was seen as a major shake-up in the state’s legislative landscape. The current Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly is Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who was elected on January 13, 2025, following Obasa’s impeachment.
