One cannot help but admire the governor of Edo state. Senator Monday Okpebholo with the kind of people he has appointed thus far to work with him for the actualization of a better Edo State.
Of particular reference and note worthy is the enigma himself who the governor has drafted to SUBEB(State Universal Basic Education Board)to pilot her affair
In such a short time (less than four weeks) on the saddle – before the yelitude break – Dr. Paddy has, in collaboration with the governor covered a lot of ground. They have together visited a lot of schools in Benin city and environs to see things for themselves.
All our eyes have seen, thus far, is a big shame and a sad commentary on the immediate past government of Godwin Obaseki. We have been inundated with photographs of dilapidated school buildings, classrooms without chairs, ceiling nor roofs, and pupils seating on bare floor to receive lessons from teachers.
Part of the many fraud and eyesore of EdoBest (an Obaseki/Asue Ighodalo school project) came to the fore with the tours so far embarked on by the duo. All Obaseki did was focused on some few schools in the city centres to deceive Edolites that he is working. The children in the rural areas were totally abandoned.
Past governor Godwin Obaseki, his commissioner for education and chairman of his SUBEB should come under the rader of EFCC. Thanks to the good Lord, EFCC office is just across the road of SUBEB office. They are the only body that can really investigate and unearth how money meant for schools projects was mismanaged.
Back to my reference to Dr. Paddy Iyamu as a square peg in a square hole. Recall that I wrote about Dr Paddy, a young dynamic, energetic and successful business man. Who, in his personal capacity hosted an empowerment event in June 2024 where he empowered over two hundred youths and artisans from various works of life, the likes of carpenters, hairdressers, mechanics, welders etc and students from various tertiary institutions. He gifted them with ₦200,000.00(two hundred thousand Naira) each to invest in their craft and education.
I traveled from Lagos for that event on the invitation of Mr Frank Ize-Iyamu. That occasion which took place in a very beautiful and cossy event center was well organised. It had the then APC guber candidate senator Monday Okpebholo and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as guests of honour. Okpebholo was very touched by the benevolence of Dr Paddy. When he came to the podium to give his speech, he set his script aside and gave a touchy story of his rise from a humble beginning.
His speech was like the icing on the cake, after powerful speakers in the mould of Linus Okorie have delivered theirs. At the end of his speech he called out 20 youths plying their craft as welders, barbers, Radionics, mechanics, hair dressers etc. He gave ₦10,000,000.00(ten million Naira) to them to be shared ₦500,000.00 to each of them. The joyous frenzy in the hall was palpable on that day.
Therefore, it is no wonder to see that senator Monday Okpebholo who is now Governor of Edo State picked Dr. Paddy to synergize with him in the area of youth development through the most basic of it all – EDUCATION.
Past governor Godwin Obaseki created ministry of roads and bridges, he did not build a single bridge in Edo State, it was just a conduit pipe for the chanellisation of state funds into private coffers. Compare and contrast this with two icons who gave hundreds of millions in their private capacity now working together for Edo people. What we will witness will be a better life for our children. Unlike those who gave a better life to themselves, using EdoBest to dip their hands into the cooky jar.
To those doubting Thomas in PDP I implore them to keep their eyes on senator Monday Okpebholo’s SUBEB, lead by Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu. Their eyes will behold a transformed school system in Edo State.
