The prevailing narrative that infrastructural development is uniformly distributed across Nigeria fails to reflect the realities on the ground. A significant body of evidence indicates that over 70% of road and infrastructural development projects have been concentrated in the northern region. In stark contrast, the southern region has received a mere 30% of these investments. This inequality is well-documented in various government reports concerning capital project allocations and their execution. The assertion that infrastructural development is equally spread risks misguiding priorities that must focus on fostering balanced regional development.
Misinformation surrounding infrastructural development is not merely a benign oversight but poses a broader danger to national cohesion and policy effectiveness. When citizens believe in an unjustly skewed distribution of resources, it breeds resentment and skepticism toward government initiatives. Such narratives can ultimately undermine trust in democratic institutions and fuel discord among regions. This assertion contradicts basic fiscal logic; Nigeria’s total annual budget seldom exceeds N26 trillion. Thus, allocating over half of that budget to a single contract raises numerous red flags.
