The MD of MTN, Karl Toriola was today, 14th December, 2024, conferred with a honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.SC) by Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife.
Precisely, on 25th November, 2024 (18 days ago), the same Karl Toriola was conferred with a Merit Award by the Osun State Government. I believe he sent a representative, but at no point in time did he publicly acknowledge the Osun State Government for deeming it fit to honour him with the said Award. Ordinarily, the MD ought to pay a visit to His Excellency, out of courtesy and to also possibly discuss peace settlement that will bring an end to the disputes between both parties.
The point being made is that with the division within the camp of the State Government, consultant, not included in meetings, etc. MTN is not taking the State serious.
The State is not showing any desire to increase its IGR.
A Committee that was set up to look into the issues frustrating the contract and give its report, has not submitted anything for over 8 months. The sitting of the committee appears academic.
