The purpose of the visit was to seek Dokubo-Asari’s support for the upcoming Abuloma beach and cultural festival, scheduled to hold on December 26 & 27, 2024, in Abuloma. Rivers State.
The youths were warmly received by Dokubo-Asari, who welcomed them in the traditional Ijaw way with wine and cash as a mark of honor. The delegation expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and commended Dokubo-Asari for his commitment to the unity and progress of the Ijaw people.
The visit was particularly significant given the recent fracas that occurred during the IYC Rivers State elections in Abuloma, which had raised tensions between the people of Kalabari kingdom and Abuloma. However, the youths emphasized their belief in the unity of the Ijaw people and their desire to promote peace and understanding. They thanked him for his cordial reception.
Dokubo-Asari, in his response, reiterated his commitment to the unity and progress of the Ijaw people. He emphasized that he had nothing to gain by attacking Abuloma, which is an Ijaw town, and that he would always prioritize the interests of the Ijaw people.
The Abuloma Beach Carnival Committee has expressed gratitude to Dokubo-Asari for his promise to support the upcoming festival. The event is expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Ijaw people and promote unity and understanding among the various communities in the region. In the team were GodGift Gudi, Iweriso Velvet Apiyanteide, Thompson S. and Agotu Gloria
Dokubo-Asari said like he has often repeated the fracas that happened during the IYC election in August was caused by people who were loyal to Nyesom Wike and IYC President, Johnathan Lokpobri wanted to highjack the leadership of the Rivers State IYC, that he said he cannot allow to happen.
” They can try that anywhere else but not the Rivers state IYC.
In case you don’t know, I have many prominent people in Abuloma as my friends and they are also die hard supporters of Gov Sim Fubara”
He insisted that there is no way he can do anything bad to the people of Abuloma rather it was his people who came for the IYC election that were attacked unprovoked in Abuloma and shot at in a coordinated attack.
Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari was one of the founding fathers of the Ijaw youth Congress, IYC and has held positions of deputy president and President. And he continues to support IYC activities because he can not forget his roots.
Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari continues to be a voice for minority rights, resource control and to continue speaking truth to power for the betterment of Nigeria.
