I join all African sportsmen and women to express deep condolences to the family, friends and the military establishment on the recent death of the Chief of the Army Staff of Nigeria, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
May his soul journey back peacefully to his Creator.
Significantly, there are only 8 days to the start of the 2nd African Military Games holding in Abuja from November 18 to 30th, 2024.
With over 2000 athletes in 19 sports from 44 countries, Abuja will be agog with a feast of festivities and sports. This is important because Nigeria starts a new journey in national sports administration with the rebirth of the National Sports Commission whose board membership will definitely include a representative from the Military.
On ‘90 mins with Mathematical’ I shall be spending the time with the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, who is on the mission to revive sports within the military establishments, and the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the Games, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Timothy Marquis, who is steering the wheel of the biggest international sports event in Africa in 2024!
The Military and Sports used to be like Bread and Butter. WWhat happened to alter that tradition?
What are the legacies anticipated from ‘Abuja 2024’?
How would this ambitious project impact sports in the Nigerian military and beyond?
Will the Games catalyze a new relationship between the Military and the citizens?
