Chief Lere Paimo, also known as Eda Oni Ola, is a legendary Nollywood actor, producer, and director. He has spent an impressive 64 years in the industry, starting in 1958.
Born in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Lere joined the Oyin Adejobi theatre group in 1958. He later joined Duro Ladipo’s Theatre Group, where he gained popularity for his role as Chief Basa in the stage play “Obamoro.”
Lere’s breakthrough came with the lead role in the epic Yoruba film “Ogbori Elemosho” in 1963. This iconic movie tells the story of how Ogbomosho was founded. Lere played Soun Ogunlola, a brave hunter who defeated the mysterious Elemoso.
Throughout his career, Lere has acted in many notable films, including “Saworoide,” “Oleku,” “Agogo Ewo,” and “Arugba.” He was awarded the National Award of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2005.
Lere Paimo is a pioneer of the Yoruba movie genre and is known for his versatility in playing various roles. Despite retiring from active acting, he remains a household name in Nollywood.
Recently, Lere celebrated his 85th birthday, marking 64 years in the movie industry. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of actors and filmmakers.
