…Urges Govt To Invest Massively in Agriculture
The Convener, Apostolic Round Table, Dr Bolaji Akinyemi has been honoured as an Eminent Peace Ambassador by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (United Nations Volunteers).
The distinguished award was conferred on Akinyemi for his selfless and great contributions to the peace and developments of Nigeria.
The award ceremony took place on Thursday October 17, 2024 at Virginrose Resorts & Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Akinyemi who was also the Guest Speaker at the event spoke on “Eradication of poverty through total education of the mind”.
The advocate of good governance emphasized the need to
get the mind educated, which according to him is the heart, the place of moral and education as well as educating the hands, which is where skills will be excellent.

Akinyemi noted that if you can’t get something to do with your head, you can find something to do with your heart. If you can’t find something to do with your heart, you can get something doing with your hands.
The guest speaker further stated that in Nigeria of today, many graduates carry certificates without skills, which is why many of them are jobless.

He said two years ago, when he checked the poverty level of the different geo political zones in Nigeria, southeast has the highest ratio, adding that “for the purpose of today’s lecture, a check on the rate again has shown that Southwest has overtaken the southeast in poverty rating”.
He urged the government to adopt Eastern model of education, where the younger one goes through apprenticeship ( Boy-Boy model) but later get setup by the boss.
According to the Convener of the Apostolic Round Table, the model has been very helpful and has sustained the Igbos and brought many of them out of poverty.
The newly honoured Ambassador of Peace also advised Nigerian government to invest heavily in agriculture, which he regarded as the highest employer of labor in Nigeria today.
“If those people in the rural areas don’t have something doing, we would have been in a mess by now. We must do more than what they are doing to increase their productivity.

“Government must come up with policy that addresses the issue of our productivity, storage and get the produce to where they are needed at the right time”, he said.
Dr Akinyemi expressed joy over the award which he described as great, saying “it’s an honor graciously bestowed, it simply means, there are people who are following the things we do and who recognize us”.
He further stated that the award ” Is a recognition to encourage us to do more. For me personally, it is such a tremendous encouragement that we have had from eminent citizens so that anywhere we go, we receive such recognitions”.
“The honour translate into emphasizing that whatever you are doing, don’t get distracted, keep focus, whether the government recognizes or people don’t recognize, at the appropriate time, they would surely notice”, he added.
The International Director of IAWPA, Prof. Chidi Ehiriodo, charged the honorees for more work saying the reward for hardwork is more work.
Other eminent Nigerians who were honoured at the event include, the traditional ruler of Arochukwu kingdom, Engr Dr Eberechukwu Oji, Dr Alhaji Umaru Muhammad Isa Umaru among others.
