Is there no one who can rescue this old man from SERVITUDE? Such a PITY…
“RICHARD AKINNOLA on FACEBOOK: Sometime in 1998, l was in London when Dele Momodu was in exile. That was at the early years of Ovation. Myself, Bob Dee and someone else l can’t recollect now, were gisting and laughing. We were in Tokunbo Afikuyomi’s car on our way to the launch of an international NGO founded by Tokunbo’s father in-law, Judge Bola Ajibola (now of blessed memory), somewhere in London.
In the course of the journey, l noticed that Bob Dee was unusually quiet. I asked him what the matter was. Each time l suggested different issues, he would retort, “that is minor”. Then, l now asked, “shey Ovation ni?” He quickly retorted “iyen gan ni major”(that is the major). Then, Ovation was published and printed in London. Printers refused to print without full payment, not like in our society of “padi padi” credit arrangement, and the printing cost was humongous. Meanwhile, Dele was supposed to travel with the copies of the magazine in two days to Cotonou, from where they would be smuggled to Lagos because he could not enter Nigeria as a wanted man. So, that was what was on Dele’s mind that day. Today, Ovation has become a major global brand, with other subsidiaries. It’s therefore disingenuous and dishonest for someone who has never had a single employee in his employ to be throwing dirts on an entrepreneur of over 25 years just because of his political views, particularly from someone who has no visible means of livelihood, apart from being attack dog for politicians…”
