It feels very lonely tonight.
Yet, I shall not curse this darkness.
I shall look underneath it for the treasures that lie hidden there.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we regret to inform all our registered schools, partners and all those involved in the arrangements for the 10th Lee Evans Memorial Athletics Meet, scheduled to take place from November 24 to 25, 2023, that the event has to be postponed till next year.
The running track of the original venue booked for the event, the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, is in an unusable state, awaiting major repair work in readiness for the 2024 National Sports Festival to be held there.
The only alternative venue around Abeokuta that we secured last week in an emergency arrangement, Day Waterman College, Abeokuta, has set conditions for its use that cannot be met in time for the event.
Without a venue for the event, it is, therefore, impossible to hold it next week.
It is for that reason that the postponement of the 1st Lee Evans Memorial Athletics Meet and shifting it to 2024 has become inevitable. This is definitely give SOCA the opportunity to ensure that a proper first-class venue is in place to host the event next year.
We regret all the inconveniences this will cause schools and students that have been training hard to use the event to advance their pursuit of the combination of scholarship and sports.
All those involved in the games shall be duly informed about future developments.
We thank all those that have been supporting us unflinchingly from inception till now.
