Supreme Court Breaks Silence On Tinubu’s “Alleged” Phone Conversation With CJN, DSS To Influence Judgement

The Supreme Court has on Wednesday dismissed rumours of an alleged phone conversation between President Bola Tinubu and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, over attempts to influence the outcome of the ongoing proceedings before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).
According to Channels TV reports, the apex court was reacting to social media rumours that the President allegedly spoke to the CJN in a phone conversation concerning the proceedings before the PEPC.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Dr. Festus Akande, on Wednesday, the Supreme Court said it was vital to clarify issues concerning the rumours making rounds.
According to the Supreme court, if this current trend of falsehood and mudslinging is sustained, the nation might not make the desired progress.
“In view of the rumour currently circulating in the social media space that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, had a telephone conversation with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Director General of the Department of State Service (DSS) with a view to pressurizing the Presidential Election Petition Court on the likely judgment to give, it is imperative to state clearly that there is no iota of truth in the narrative, as there was no such telephones conversation between the CJN and anyone” the statement said.
The apex court pleaded with everyone to cooperate with the judiciary to serve the country to its full capacity, as no one would ever be favoured against the other in any dispute.
The apex court said the rule of law and supremacy of the Nigerian Constitution would always be upheld and applied in every matter that came before the courts; as the facts presented and the subsisting laws must be applied in determining the merit or otherwise of each matter.
The statement added that the public should be rest assured that justice would be done to all matters pending in the various courts across the country, irrespective of who is involved.
Earlier, the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, reacted to the allegation that President Bola Tinubu had a telephone conversation with CJN Olukayode Ariwoola
Felix Morka, the spokesperson of the APC, expressed that the allegation from Jackson Ude, Labour Party and Peter Obi’s campaigner, was false information.
Morka, who said the APC and President Tinubu won the election, accused Ude of making an intentionally misleading and mischievous comment.
